Dubbed “Wellywood “ it has made it to the front line of the cinema and film world when Sir Peter Jackson filmed “Lord Of The Rings” in the surrounds of Wellington. You can spend more than a few days tracing the locations and sites of the filming of this trilogy. Maybe visit the Weta Workshop or take part in one of the tours. Its all on your doorstep.

A Green Museum City

Wellington’s Parks and Botanical Gardens are just a stones throw away. Stroll down to the Wellington Cable Car on Lambton Quay in less than 10 minutes and enjoy catching a ride up with the cable car to the top of the Botanical Gardens. From here you will experience brilliant views of the Capital City.

Maybe then visit the waterfront and the harbour via Lambton Quay. The Museum of New Zealand Te Papa is close by displaying the rich Maori culture and everything else important to New Zealand. Make sure you do take time on a fine day to visit the Mt Victoria lookout. A good walk for the fitter ones by foot or buses can take you to the top where you will experience 360 degree views stretching far and wide.

If you are budget minded, why not stop in at a supermarket close by and make use of our fully equipped kitchen by preparing your own meal. Remember that on Wednesdays we provide a free soup in winter or a BBQ sausage sizzle in summer.

There is bound to be a gig with live music close by. Courtenay Place, Dixon St or the Cuba Mall Precinct offers a variety of music. Check our notice board daily for information.
